The artist has donated the complete sum of his £25,000 honor winnings to the trust for venues, which functions to protect the United Kingdom's small live music spots.

He was given the prize on 16 October as his third album People Watching was chosen as the outstanding release of the past year.

He has chosen to give the cash to the trust, in recognition of the crucial part local spots fulfilled in his initial steps.

"I would not have achieved what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the shows I did around the area, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," said Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these locations have permanently closed – approximately 16 percent of the total UK scene.

In the last year, well-known musicians such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the trust in its attempts to support the industry, by applying a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also joined in, generating in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to help thirty-eight local spots across the UK.

These funds supported spaces that were dealing with potential shutdown due to challenges arising from water damage, fires and personal losses, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Other venues received financial assistance in modernizing infrastructure and technical equipment that positively impacted musicians and audiences.

"The notion that money from performances in major spaces supports the independent spots, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just logical," Fender has said.

Additionally 1994 winners they gave their award to a charity for MS after a close contact was found to have the illness.

"Receiving the award was ample," remarked artist the singer. "The prize was the cherry on top but we didn't require the extra, because we had the main prize. So our success touched another person's life."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust shared it had saved a couple of grassroots venues in the South East, by placing them under public stewardship.

The Joiners in Southampton and the other in that location were acquired under the public acquisition initiative, which is supported by the arts council and enthusiasts who purchase "stakes" in the venues.
